With the news so full of drama and woe, it's good to be able to look out my windows and see the towering redwood trees, their roots firmly entwined, silent guardians of this forest, which has seen so many humans come and go. When I go down to the ocean and watch the waves for a while, when I look up and see the waxing moon, when golden leaves swirl in a fluttering dance on the autumn wind, I find reassurance in the eternal cycles of time and change. We will get through these times, with many more adventures to come, more joy and sorrow, more unexpected challenges and delights. 
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans," John Lennon sang to his little son. Today is John Lennon's birthday, and yesterday was the birth day of my new great-nephew, Jackson. Welcome, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy. Life is what happens.
Why is this a blogue?
- Why is this a blogue, not a blog? It’s just an old-fashioned touch that harkens back to less-hurried (and harried) times, when a letter took a while to get delivered, and a reply took a while longer. When books were savored for their precious rarity. When news came in slowly for the most part and could be thoughtfully considered. A rapid-fire flow of constant info-junk tends to make me twitchy. When you visit my blogue, I invite you to take a nice deep breath, absorb things a little at a time, wander in a serendipitous fashion, and generally remember that even in the ultra-speedy world of the Internet, you control the pace of your life.

Tarot Card of the Week
- Moon
When the planet turns its face toward the dark, our nocturnal nature draws us out into the realm of Moon. This is a dominion of dreams that we explore with our senses fully awake. The subconscious spills into consciousness, allowing us to see what is not revealed by sight alone. Strange sounds come to our ears, intoxicating perfumes reach our noses, things appear that only emerge in darkness. We creep softly, following our moonshadows over the colorless world.

Thanks, Maggie! This is my second great-nevling (that's the gender-neutral word I've been trying to have catch on to mean both nieces and nephews). I don't get to see my family very often, but I hope they all know they are in my thoughts. Hey, Joanna, show baby Grace the picture and ask her how she feels about younger men. ;-)

Well, my niece Kaili takes after her Aunt Loonie in at least one way: she likes to change her mind! Baby Foster is now Baby Jackson! :-)
